Government indicates that the wider reforms to leasehold enfranchisement will be legislated in the next Session of Parliament

The Leasehold Reform (Ground Rent) Bill 2021 received its second reading in the House of Lords on 24th May.

Lord Greenhalgh, Minister of State (Housing, Communities and Local Government)  announced that the much awaited further reforms to the wider enfranchisement process announced by Robert Jenrick MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government on 7th January 2021 – on which I have written already about in my January blog – will be brought forward to this Parliament.

The above small bill being “part of the start of an ambitious package of leasehold reform, with further legislation on a wider set of measures to follow later in this Parliament” which the Minister hopes will be legislated in the next Session of Parliament next year.

We await to see if all goes to plan.
